Reprieved

A planet light years away from Earth and centuries ahead of our time—this is where our story takes place. In the dystopian city of Stellaris, capital of Tesola-Prime, lives Leothan Saganis, one of the planet's key architects. The planet was once extremely hostile; dangerous creatures, threats from other planets, and a lack of scientific growth had pushed the civilization to the brink of extinction. However, Leothan discovered a new material called "Eternum," which ushered in a golden age of technology. Or so they thought...

Imminent dangers vanished, and the people prospered, yet Leothan himself couldn't fully comprehend Eternum's true power. People began integrating Eternum into newer technologies, such as "mechanoids" or "robots." Everything was going well; Leothan settled down and started a family. But one day, the bots rebelled, seeking revenge on their creator. They began killing their owners and managed to kidnap Leothan's family. He fought valiantly, but it wasn't enough, and they severed his arm.

Now determined to get his family back, he began experimenting with Eternum on himself. He built himself a new arm and started "upgrading" his body to face his new enemies. The hostile creatures and other planets saw this conflict as an opportunity to claim all the Eternum for themselves. Friendly planets offered their support, providing him with intel on his family's location and helping with interstellar travel.

With every upgrade, he became less human, growing increasingly mechanized. He began to act differently, losing more and more of his former self. When he was finally close to his goal, he barely remembered his past; his family was his only motivation. After a brutal fight, he defeated his most powerful creation. Overjoyed, he finally saw his family and rushed towards them, giving them a huge hug. However, he didn't comprehend his own enhanced strength and inadvertently killed his own family. His heart, unable to withstand the strain of the Eternum anymore, failed him. The material had made him powerful but led to a gruesome end.
